Culture and Boundaries

While goals and strategies answer the 'What', culture answers the 'How' part of your existence.

It comprises of values, norms, ethics, behaviours and ideologies. Culture creates healthy boundaries for an organisation. And more often than not, the 'How' dictates the 'What'.

Like the late Peter Drucker famously said - Culture eats Strategy for breakfast.
The peculiarity of Culture is that it is not a fixed thing. It is a 90-day moving average of the collective behaviours in your organisation: such fluidity is the nature of culture.

How does culture keep changing?

Whenever you violate the cultural boundary, you create a new norm and others follow it. Especially, if you are a leader, the violations are copied faster. These norms then create a new culture.

Hence organisations need to preserve the culture that they stand for.
