Here is our Top Secret…
We often encounter organisations that are looking for massive change and transformation. Such projects last anytime from 6 months to 2 years. While undergoing the journey, organisations are tempted to change too many things.
They take many actions and deploy multiple strategies.
In our experience, the more the number of strategic priorities, the less successful is the execution.
Large change initiatives typically need a small 'lever'. A lever has a transformative potential much bigger than doing hundreds of things. We know that if we can unite the organisation’s energy in doing just ‘one right thing’ with intent and consistency, we are more likely to be successful in the change initiative. And it takes a lot of work to find that one right thing.
For example:
→ One organisation was able to double its revenue just by saying "hello" to each other every morning.
→ Another organisation was able to improve efficiency by notionally charging its employees for conducting meetings. Naturally their focus shifted to meet only if it is really important. (A team-wise meetings balance sheet was published every quarter)
→ And one more organisation was able to curb its attrition by implementing the 'Listen First’ initiative, where leaders were asked not to interrupt until their team members confirmed that they completed what they wanted to say.
What change are you looking for? And what would be the lever of that change.
