Experience and Exposure

What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear the word experience?

If your answer is ‘number of years’ then this post will change your mind.

When we meet a working professional, it's common to assess their experience. And often, we relate experience with the number of years they have spent in the field.

But years alone don’t tell the full story. Exposure is another, it usually is a more powerful measure of experience.

Take the young founders of Zepto as an example. Though they’ve only been in the workforce for a few years, their exposure to building a business, managing vendors, engaging with VCs, and scaling a unicorn gives them an edge. Their depth of experience rivals, and even surpasses, those who’ve spent more years in the industry.

Experience is built through exposure to new challenges, environments, and opportunities.

As a leader, how are you expanding both your exposure and that of your team?

One of the roles of a Leader is to create more Leaders- are you giving people the opportunity to lead even in the smallest of ways?
