How do you keep your assumptions in check?

Our beliefs are often rooted in assumptions about people, things, places, and more. These assumptions help us navigate daily life by anticipating how situations will unfold based on past experiences.

They come in different shapes and sizes, but here’s a thought:

Next time you make an assumption, why not assume the positive?

When a driver cuts you off in traffic, assume they might be in a hurry for an urgent reason.

When a cashier seems unfriendly, assume she might be having a rough day.

Interestingly, organisation development as a field operates on such principles. As consultants, we assume that people generally have good intentions and can learn and grow.

A small shift in mindset can make a world of difference!
