Guru Poornima 🪷
A few years ago, I was part of a workshop where we closed the workshop with a Buddhist ceremony. Each of us was asked to meet everyone else in the room, with hands folded like in prayer, and say “The Highest in me, bows to the Highest in you!”.
As I went around with folded hands, meeting and saying this to each of the 20 people in the room, tears started rolling down my eyes. And so was the same for all of us.
We said this to people whom we liked, people whom we didn’t like and even to people with whom we had a conflict with.
We felt our Egos being shattered by this subtle act of humility and there was a deep silence. While bowing to the Highest in the other, we found the Highest in ourselves. It was an experience that I can never forget in my life. I realised that in our worldliness, we make our personas much bigger than ourselves. And there are times, we need to let it melt to meet our true selves.
Today, on this occasion of Guru Poornima, I invite you to take a bow to each person, each experience, and each situation in your life, and say, “The Highest in me, bows to the Highest in you!”.
We bow to our teachers and the Gurus in the world. But I pray that you get to meet the Guru in yourself. And if you do, take a bow to your inner Guru as well.
With this little note, I wish you a very Happy Guru Poornima!
