Systems Thinking in 60 seconds

I've been challenged to explain Systems Thinking in 60 seconds.

Some of you might think it's a framework learned in developmental workshops. Some of you might have come across it in your MBA days.

But, it's actually a lot more; it's a way of seeing what's already happening around you.

So let me explain Systems Thinking in the Systems Thinking way.

Read on.

A few moments back, you were working on something, when "Ping!" you got a notification for an email in your inbox.

"Systems Thinking in 60 seconds", it read.

Maybe it got your attention then, or maybe it got your attention when you were scrolling through your inbox. Navigating through subject lines and people who are fighting for your attention.

Either way, you stopped on this one. You opened it.

Your email provider noticed this. Gmail (or Outlook, or whichever one you use) just made a note that you opened this mail, and notes the links you clicked, and the time you spent.

MEANWHILE...

Your brain got a small hit of dopamine. And the thing with dopamine, it always looks for more.

So you're still here, reading and processing, making meaning of all this in your own context.

You're also breathing, your heart is pumping, your blood is flowing.

All of this, while reading one email.

Here is where it gets interesting

The more you open my emails, the more your inbox tells itself this sender matters. That signal pushes my next email out of Promotions and into your Primary tab.

More people landing in Primary means more people opening. More opens mean stronger sender reputation. Stronger sender reputation means even more emails land where you'll actually see them.

Before you actually

So while you think you just read a newsletter, you were actually part of a feedback loop.

That's Systems Thinking.

Yet this was only 0.0001% of it.

And once you immerse yourself fully into it, you start seeing these feedback loops in every decision you make.

So, if you are a leader who wants to solve sticky problems.

Then on the 26th and 27th of June, I'm hosting the Systems Thinking Lab in Pune, in person. A 1.5-day workshop.

With only a few days left, I invite you to register and explore what emerges for you in the process.

See you in person.
